Horace Nalle
Horace Nalle acts as a Principal at Oriole Animal Health, LLC. Oriole provides business and transactional advice to companies and investors in the field of animal health. Oriole operates in some cases as a consultant and, in other cases, as an equity partner.
Previously, Horace Nalle held various C-suite positions at Merial, including CLO, CEO of Hubbard Farms, Head of Communications and Public Affairs, Head of Regulatory Affairs, and Head of Blue Sky Research. Merial manufactures Frontline and Heartgard products and has grown into a highly networked $2.8 billion animal health care leader. Established as a joint venture between Merck and what is now Sanofi, the multinational firm is now being integrated within the French-based Sanofi’s corporate structure.
Horace Nalle earned a Bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard University and subsequently pursued studies at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Working at Drinker Biddle & Reath for nearly a decade, he handled complex cases involving corporate control and securities litigation. From 1991 to 1997, he held a number of positions in the pharmaceutical industry with Merck & Co.’s legal team, which culminated in the establishment of Merial.
As President of Hubbard, LLC, Nalle oversaw the Merial-owned poultry-breeding enterprise that achieved a revenue of $100 million and encompassed 10 international subsidiaries. Nalle managed the firm as a stand-alone operation with independent marketing, finance, human resources, research and development, and Internet-systems capacities.
In addition, Nalle notably spearheaded a biotechnology initiative that brought the firm significant intellectual property assets in the poultry production and breeding spheres. Since 2008, Horace Nalle has held additional responsibilities as Director of Merial Blue Sky Research. In this role, he focuses on launching transformative, high-risk projects that have the potential to bring the parent firm significant market advantages.
